MIRI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation in the U.S. and contributions are tax deductible. Under the Special New Tax Guidelines for Charitable Donations for the 2021 tax year, taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions can take an above-the-line charitable deduction of up to $300 for certain charitable contributions ($600 for married couples). In addition, for 2021, the deduction available on cash contributions to charitable organisations has been increased from 60 percent of a taxpayer's AGI to 100 percent. (Contributions to donor-advised funds are not eligible.) For corporations, the deductibility of cash contributions has been increased temporarily from 10 percent to 25 percent of taxable income.
MIRI is a registered charitable institution in India, and contributions are tax-deductible under Section 80G of the Indian Income Tax Act. It is eligible to receive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) donations, and is a FCRA registered organisation.
